Privacy Policy

Data

To make sure your data is handled securely, we just avoid collecting it. We do collect an email, so you can sign in and reset your password. It is also helpful so that if you contact us, we can see your progress, fix issues with access on the back end of the site, or restore data in the event of website maintenance. Obviously, we also collect a password, but we cannot see it. It is stored as a ‘one way hash’.

There is some local data saved: cookies are used to keep you logged in on an account. But we do not run advertising on our site, so beyond that signed-in info, we do not collect, use or sell any data gathered by the site.

There is general progress data saved, to help us see where progress slows, which units need more time, and which characters are gotten wrong more than others. This is to help improve the site, but it is not used or linked to any specific user, though the data gathered is attached to your email.

All payment information is run by Stripe, a third party provider who handles all your details. We do not see your card number, Stripe does that for the site. Stripe’s privacy and security policies are linked here.

We use another provider called Supabase that holds our data. This database system is how the course progresses, but again, all Supabase will have is an email. It is not even linked to your name. Supabase’s privacy policy is linked here.

If you have any issues with this, just make a new email. There are plenty of sites that generate temporary emails, but you will lose the ability to reset your password, and we probably will not be able to properly help you if we cannot match the email.

How we use your email

When you finish the course, you will have the option to opt in to emails about courses we might make in the future. My long term goal is to make full courses for beginners, but I am also considering some vocabulary courses for intermediate speakers. We will not email you if you do not opt in.

Keeping and deleting your data

We keep your data while your account is active. Accounts will be removed after 2 years of being inactive. After that time, the data will be deleted from our databases, though we may keep user and payment records (but never credit card details) for tax reporting purposes indefinitely.

If you would like your data deleted, just email! We will delete your data from our current databases and from our backups too.

Security and children

Your connection to the site is encrypted (HTTPS) and, as above, your password is only ever stored as a one way hash. The course is made for adults, but there is no reason it could not be used by children: there is no way to message other users, and there are no inappropriate example words.
